Coding of sensory input and the influence of experience is fundamental for perception and cognition. I study circuit mechanisms underlying learning-related cortical processing, the impact of the molecular outlay of neural circuits, like the Extracellular Matrix, and attempt to emphasize the translational relevance for understanding sensory or memory malfunctions, like Tinnitus or Alzheimer's disease. The full richness of levels of observation could only be tackled with strong collaborative efforts combining techniques; i.e. in vivo multisite electrophysiology, pharmacology, molecular and genetical tools and animal behavior.
