 AG Functional anatomy and plasticity of auditory cortex

 Organizational principles of auditory corticocortical connections

During the last years it has become increasingly apparent that primary sensory cortices, like the primary auditory cortex (field A1), are not purely unisensory but also process complex information from other sensory and non-sensory modalities.

In this project we study the possible anatomical basis of crossmodal information processing at the level of A1. In particular, we investigate the thalamic and cortical connections linking A1 with auditory, other sensory (visual, somatosensory, olfactory), multisensory, motor and "higher" order associative brain structures by means of sophisticated neuronal tract tracing, stereological and immunhistochemical methods.
