Important milestones of our institute's development:

1981:

Foundation of the Institute for Neurobiology and Brain Research (INH) of the Academy of Sciences of the GDR by Hansjürgen Matthies

1989:

Moving into the new building

1992:

Reestablishment as Institute for Neurobiology (IfN) with Henning Scheich as founding director as well as Eckart Gundelfinger and Klaus Reymann as further department heads

2004:

Foundation of the Department „Behavioral Neurology“, directed by Hans-Jochen Heinze

2005:

Commissioning of Europe's first 7 Tesla ultra-high field MRI

 

2008:

Change in LIN management: longstanding Administrative Director Gerd Brandt hands over to incoming Director Thekla Thiel

2010:

Eckart Gundelfinger (left) as successor of Henning Scheich (right) becomes new Scientific Managing Director

2011:

Foundation of the Department "Systems Physiology of Learning", directed by Frank Ohl

2011:

Demolition of the old institute and the moving into the new building - going along with a change of logo: The IfN becomes the LIN

2012:

Bertram Gerber's Department "Genetics of Learning and Memory" starts working

2016:

Magdalena Sauvage establishes the Department "Functional Architecture of Memory"

 

2018:

A 9.4 Tesla animal scanner was inaugurated at the LIN

2020:

Stefan Remy (right) succeeds Eckart Gundelfinger (left) and becomes the new Managing Director. The scientist establishes the new Department of Cellular Neurosciences.
