How do we select target information from the enormous flood of irrelevant input that our visual system is constantly bombarded with? In most cases, our focusing onto the things we are interested in proceeds in a flawless manner without any obvious effort. This ease of visual processing is deceptive, however, since the visual system must continuously solve a number of serious problems ‘behind the scenes' to achieve and maintain selectivity. The aim of our research group is to elucidate the brain mechanisms that serve to solve these problems. Our approach is to combine non-invasive electromagnetic brain imaging (MEG, EEG) with functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI).
