Aim

In accordance with the structural and educational concept of LIN the special laboratory ELMI provides highly advanced state-of-the-art microscopic infrastructure as well as service and training for the research groups of LIN.

In addition, the SL pursues research projects on functional neuromorphology and the analysis of dynamic processes in pre- and postsynaptic structures. Furthermore, the SL strives to advance technological progress and methodological developments in the field of high resolution and functional imaging.

In this way, the SL ELMI aims to contribute to a better understanding of complex cellular and molecular changes during generation, modification and dysfunction of neuronal networks.

Service and Training

Main emphasis is laid on providing state-of-the-art instrumentation, service and training for the research groups at LIN.

In following these goals, two technologies were established at LIN:

  • high resolution microscopy beyond the diffraction limit,
  • functional live cell imaging under low lighting conditions.

With the installation of a 2-channel STED-microscope and a widefield single photon counting camera, the SL provides instrumentational set-ups for precise molecular localizations in immunostainings, as well as FRET measurements of biosensors.
