In order to evaluate complex staining patterns within histological material we developed a software for the automatic 3-dimensional image acquisition of large coherent areas with a confocal laserscanning microscope (MIS-A). Because 3D-scanning of large coherent areas at high magnification produces multi-dimensional image data sets of several 100 MB to GB, in collaboration with the Fraunhofer Institute for Computer Graphics , Rostock we have developed a software (MIS-Browser) that allows fast and easy image handling and navigation through these multi-dimensional image data sets as well as the generation of new subvolumes. Subsequently, the preprocessed new sub-datasets can be directly exported to the 3D image analysis program AMIRA .
